July 25 marks the World Drowning Prevention Day, an important initiative promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) following the United Nations Resolution of April 2021. This event is dedicated to highlighting the devastating impact of drowning and proposing effective measures to prevent it.
Objectives and Key Messages
This year’s central message is clear: “Every drowning is preventable. Solutions exist.” Italian locations that have been awarded the Blue Flag actively participate in the day by organizing events aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of water safety. These activities include meetings with representatives from institutions and industry professionals, practical demonstrations on beach safety and first aid, as well as educational workshops for children.
Activities Conducted
In particular, the events focus on the theme “Blue Flag: Safe at Sea” (or at the lake in this case). Through these initiatives, the aim is to educate the public about safe behaviors to adopt when near water, while also emphasizing the importance of proper training for rescue operators.
