The trial for the murder of Yana Malaiko, which took place in Castiglione delle Stiviere, has revealed chilling details about the premeditation of the crime. Dumitru Stratan, accused of killing the 23-year-old woman, had searched on Google how to prepare poison just hours before the murder. Security cameras documented Yana’s last moments alive and Stratan’s clumsy attempts to disable the surveillance devices. Investigators found compelling evidence, including videos showing the murderer carrying the victim’s body in a suitcase.
Yana’s body was found on February 1, 2023, after ten days of intensive searching. Investigators were able to locate the site thanks to recordings from cameras monitoring Stratan’s Mercedes movements. The corpse was hidden under green leaves in an isolated alley. During the trial, further evidence against Stratan emerged, including forged messages sent from the victim’s phone to mislead the investigation and crucial audio interceptions. The next hearing is scheduled for June 20, where new key witnesses will be heard.
