A delegation from the military personnel of the 6th Wing of the Italian Air Force in Ghedi visited the Molecular Oncology Foundation Institute (IFOM) in Milan, upon invitation from the AIRC Foundation. This visit is part of the solidarity initiative “A Gift from the Sky,” promoted by the Italian Air Force in support of the AIRC Foundation during the Centennial year of the establishment of the “Arma Azzurra” (Blue Army). The objective is to raise funds for the supply of sophisticated technological equipment necessary for cancer research and treatment conducted by IFOM.
During the visit, the challenges that cancer research faces on a daily basis were presented, as well as how it is concretely supported by the activities of the AIRC Foundation. The mission, organization, and progress achieved in the field of diagnosis and treatment through IFOM’s research were also showcased.
The event concluded with a visit to the laboratories of IFOM, dedicated spaces for studying, diagnosing, and researching in the field of molecular biology. Here, the members of the delegation were able to see firsthand the methodologies, skills, and tools used in the fight against cancer.
During the visit, the Commander of the 6th Wing commended the AIRC Foundation and IFOM for their selfless commitment in the battle against cancer. He emphasized the importance of shared values in serving the community and the country and praised Italian excellence worldwide.
The 6th Wing “Alfredo Fusco” is tasked with acquiring and maintaining the capability to carry out interdiction, reconnaissance, and support operations for surface forces. Additionally, it contributes to the defense of Italian skies and the Atlantic Alliance with specific operational capabilities and cutting-edge technologies. The 6th Wing also conducts operational conversion and standardization activities for flight crews assigned to the Tornado IDS/ECR line and demonstrates its capabilities in operations with Tornado and F-35A aircraft.
It is important to highlight that the 6th Wing also collaborates with civil authorities for public order in cases of emergencies or natural disasters.
