On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its founding, the Garda Community recalls significant figures who have marked its history. Among them stands out Annamaria Salvo de Paoli, a key player in the political and institutional life of the Garda area during the 1980s and 1990s, whose memory is now evoked by the Secretary General Pierlucio Ceresa. A pharmacist by profession and an active administrator in Salò, she left a substantial imprint on the cultural and tourist development of the area.
Political and Institutional Role
Annamaria Salvo de Paoli held prominent roles in the municipal administration of Salò, serving as Deputy Mayor and councilor during the terms of Mayors Riccardo Marchioro and Pino Mongiello. Concurrently, she was permanently delegated by the Municipality to the bodies of the Garda Community. Her rise in the local political and institutional landscape occurred at a time when female representation in such spheres was not a given, distinguishing herself through intelligence, professionalism, and a strong sense of public service, as noted by those who had the opportunity to collaborate with her at the institutional level. She was married to Bepi de Paoli, also a pharmacist and owner of the eponymous pharmacy in Salò.
Cultural and Tourist Contributions
During her more than a decade-long tenure within the Garda Community, specifically as a delegate for cultural and tourist sectors, Annamaria Salvo de Paoli promoted numerous significant initiatives. Among these were the celebrations for the bicentennial of Goethe’s journey to Italy in 1987, events aimed at enhancing the Lake Garda in the context of European culture, and the establishment of the ISFE (Institute for European Training). She was also involved in the project “Galeas per montes conducendo,” a historical reenactment of the transport of Venetian galleys, and chaired the CPT, the Tourism Promotion Center.
A Legacy for the Territory
Having passed away a few years ago, Annamaria Salvo de Paoli is remembered for her expertise and passion dedicated to the growth of the Garda area. Pierlucio Ceresa, in his tribute, highlights how her selfless commitment and love for the lake that characterized her work can serve as a reference point for local leadership.
