The investigation into the death of the two-month-old girl who suffered from bronchiolitis at the Desenzano hospital last January has concluded with an archiving of the case. The infant, originally from Gozzolina, a district of Castiglione delle Stiviere in the province of Mantova, had been admitted due to complications related to the illness. The inquiry launched by the Brescia prosecutor’s office never identified any responsibility on the part of the healthcare staff, and initial findings confirmed that the treatment prescribed during a medical visit prior to her death was appropriate.
Although there were speculations about a possible delay in the health alert, this assumption did not find any concrete evidence. The autopsy performed on the child’s body provided the necessary documentation to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death. With the archiving of the investigation, a painful chapter thus closes without any further developments regarding potential accountability of the doctors involved in the girl’s care.
