A 33-year-old man from Peschiera del Garda has been arrested after attempting to purchase a watch valued at €30,000 using counterfeit banknotes. The incident occurred on August 16, 2024, along Lungolago Garibaldi, where the seller, feeling suspicious, used a machine to verify the authenticity of the notes. While looking for an electrical outlet, the scammer attempted to flee.
The escape was short-lived: the seller caught up with him, and a fight broke out between the two, attracting the attention of passersby who were compelled to call the carabinieri. The law enforcement officers intervened and arrested the scammer on charges of attempted robbery, identity fraud, and possession of counterfeit banknotes.
