Desenzano del Garda celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Hotel Mayer & Splendid, a significant milestone in the history of tourism on Lake Garda. The event recently took place with the inauguration of an exhibition showcasing two centuries of tradition and hospitality, attended by the Regional Tourism Councillor of Lombardy, Barbara Mazzali. Founded in 1824 by Giuseppe Antonio Mayer, the establishment has welcomed notable historical figures such as Emperor Franz I of Austria and Giacomo Puccini, becoming a symbol of Lombard hospitality.
The exhibition has enjoyed remarkable success, attracting over 800 visitors in just 48 hours. Among the displayed attractions are historical photographs and informative panels curated by the Mayer family, allowing attendees to discover the rich history of the hotel and the surrounding area. Mazzali emphasized the importance of the establishment not only as a place of lodging but also as a guardian of local culture. The exhibition will remain open during the Christmas holidays and will be featured again in the spring of 2025 with new initiatives to continue celebrating the connection between tourism and tradition on Lake Garda.
