The water company Acque Bresciane has recently published its second integrated report, highlighting a year of significant economic and sustainability results. With a net profit of 11 million euros and investments of nearly 60 million euros, the company demonstrates strong growth and a constant commitment to environmental sustainability.
Acque Bresciane has distinguished itself as one of the most sustainability-conscious companies in the water sector. The voluntarily adopted integrated report combines financial data with information on sustainability initiatives. Since 2017, the company has initiated an internal data analysis and reporting process that involves stakeholders and defines medium to long-term objectives.
In 2023, Acque Bresciane recorded a net profit of approximately 11 million euros, marking a 142% increase compared to the previous year. This result was achieved despite additional costs related to management expansion, including the incorporation of ASVT. All profits have been reinvested to strengthen the company’s investment capacity.
During 2023, investments amounting to nearly 60 million euros were made. These funds have allowed for the improvement of water and sewerage infrastructure in the province of Brescia. Key areas of investment have included design innovations, resilience to climate challenges, and emission reduction.
Climate change represents one of the main challenges for Acque Bresciane. The company has undertaken various research projects to better manage water resources in the long term. These projects include collaborations with the University of Milan Bicocca on the study of climate impacts on water and with the Polytechnic University of Milan on water reuse in agriculture.
Another crucial aspect of the integrated report concerns biodiversity. In the 2022-2023 period, Acque Bresciane implemented significant interventions in the Torbiere del Sebino Nature Reserve. New wet channels were created, and over 10,000 square meters were reforested with the planting of 1,550 trees.
The company’s social commitment is also manifested through educational initiatives aimed at local schools. In 2023, the School Desk involved approximately 6,400 students in educational activities on environmental sustainability.
Acque Bresciane continues to promote sustainable practices in waste management during wastewater treatment. In 2023, the company managed nearly 19,000 tons of predominantly non-hazardous sludge, primarily directing them towards recovery rather than disposal.
Regarding energy consumption, there was an increase in the sewerage and purification segments due to changing climatic conditions. However, consumption in the water supply segment remained stable thanks to targeted interventions on energy efficiency.
Innovation was one of the pillars of the company’s strategy in 2023, with two important international calls: WILL – Water Innovation Living Lab and Wave – Call4Innovation promoted by Water Alliance – Acque di Lombardia.
On the social front, Acque Bresciane continues to work on themes such as diversity and inclusion through dedicated training programs for employees and adherence to national agreements on equality and social inclusion.
