The case of the deaths of Greta Nedrotti and Umberto Garzarella, which occurred in June 2021 in the Gulf of Salò, has reached its final stage in the Court of Cassation. The two German tourists involved in the boating accident, Patrick Kassen and Christian Teismann, missed the deadline to file an appeal on June 3rd. Kassen, who was sentenced to four years and six months, filed his appeal on June 1st through his lawyers Massimo Bonvicini and Guido Sola, contesting the alleged intoxication at the time of the accident and the speed of the motorboat. Teismann, who was sentenced to two years and eleven months, also filed an appeal based on the argument that he was only a passenger.
The tragedy dates back to June 19th, 2021, when the two young locals were hit by the powerful motorboat “Riva” while they were on a small boat in Lake Garda. The verdicts of the first instance were confirmed on appeal, and now the Supreme Court will have to examine the new arguments presented by the defense of the two defendants. The date of the hearing has not yet been set, but an intense discussion is expected given the seriousness of the event that shattered the lives of Greta and Umberto.
