The controversies surrounding the project for the new Catullo middle schools in Desenzano show no signs of abating. The Democratic Party has released a statement criticizing the expansion of the construction site into the Laghetto Park, calling it an unjustified and unacceptable invasion.
According to the Democratic Party, the construction work for the new school is gutting a part of the park, confirming previous concerns. The administration had stated that the chosen space would be sufficient, but this promise has been broken.
The Democratic Party had already pointed out that the green area was rich in underground water and that in the event of heavy rain, a part of the school could end up underwater. Now it has been discovered that the construction site has created a large pit that encroaches on the eastern part of the Laghetto Park, bordering the future school.
The secretary of the Democratic Party in Desenzano, Giustina Bonanno, wonders if the park will still be usable once the sinkhole is covered. She also criticizes the administration for not listening to their concerns and for choosing the wrong location for the school.
The new school will be located in a green area that should have been preserved, along a road that is already heavily trafficked and only 800 meters away from another middle school in Rivoltella. Furthermore, the project costs have increased from 7 to 12.3 million euros, and the land on which the school stands does not absorb water.
The Democratic Party had expressed its opposition to the location of the school several times, but the administration decided to proceed anyway. Now the mayor and the majority must take responsibility for this disaster, while the consequences will be borne by park visitors, middle school students, and their families who will have to attend an inadequate facility.
