On Thursday, November 7, at 8:30 PM, the Civic Library of Toscolano Maderno will host a commemorative event to celebrate the centenary of the debut of the soprano from Lake Garda, Giuseppina Cobelli, which took place in 1924 in Amsterdam with the opera “La Gioconda” by Amilcare Ponchielli. The event, organized by the library’s president Marcello Cobelli, will feature distinguished guests such as Maurizio Righetti, author of a book dedicated to the singer, and Gerardo Chimini, a well-known local pianist and composer. During the evening, historical posters will be displayed, and rare vocal recordings of the artist will be played.
Additionally, on Saturday, November 9, the “Music Room,” a space dedicated to Giuseppina Cobelli within the library, will be opened to the public. Here, visitors will be able to admire sheet music, letters, and images that tell the story of the soprano’s career, guided by Maestro Righetti, who is responsible for its preservation. Born in Maderno in 1898 and active until her retirement in 1943, Cobelli was one of the most celebrated voices in the Italian operatic scene of the twentieth century.
