The monument to the fallen in Lazise is celebrating its centenary with a commemoration to be held on November 4, coinciding with the National Unity and Armed Forces Day. This significant monument, inaugurated on September 28, 1924, is located between the old port and the historic Venetian customs house, and is dedicated to the 57 soldiers from the community who lost their lives during the Great War. The work, created by sculptor Ferruccio Recchia, features a statue of a soldier symbolically holding the Winged Victory and a laurel wreath.
The initiative for the erection of the monument was promoted by a local committee, led by Mayor Francesco Rossetti and other prominent figures of the time. Despite initial difficulties related to the demolition of historic buildings such as the Torre del Cadenon, the project came to fruition, radically altering the urban landscape of the area. The president of the ANCR, Cav. Uff. Mario Martini, emphasized the importance of this anniversary in honoring the fallen from all wars, highlighting the strong emotional connection of the community to this symbol of gratitude and historical remembrance.
