The Lombard section of the Ciclovia del Sole, which extends for about 90 kilometers in the Mantua area, has been inaugurated. This new cycle path crosses 10 municipalities, including Monzambano, Ponti sul Mincio, Goito, Marmirolo, Porto Mantovano, Mantua, Borgo Virgilio, Bagnolo San Vito, San Benedetto Po, and Moglia.
The project was financed with a total investment of 6.3 million euros, of which approximately 4 million euros were allocated by the Lombardy Region and 2.3 million euros by the State. The regional councilor for Infrastructure and Public Works, Claudia Maria Terzi, was present at the inauguration.
According to Councilor Terzi, the completion of the Ciclovia del Sole represents a promise kept for the benefit of the citizens of Mantua. This new cycle path offers an opportunity for growth and development that will make this wonderful territory even more attractive.
The Lombardy Region played a fundamental role in the realization of this cycling infrastructure. Thanks to teamwork with the Mincio Park and all the institutions involved, including the support of the Government, it was possible to transform an ambitious idea into a concrete reality.
The Ciclovia del Sole will contribute to the enhancement of the Mantua area. Through this cycle tourism route, the scenic, cultural, historical, and gastronomic beauties of the area will have an international showcase. The Ciclovia del Sole is part of EuroVelo Route 7, which connects Nordkapp in Norway to Malta and is one of the main European cycle tourism routes.
Furthermore, the route of the Ciclovia del Sole connects to two other important national cycle paths that pass through Lombardy: the Garda Cycle Path and the Vento Cycle Path. This continuity of routes promotes a new way of understanding cycling and offers cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to explore different areas of the region.
The Lombard section of the Ciclovia del Sole mainly follows the riverbanks of the Mincio and Secchia rivers and the connected canals. Some sections also pass through urban areas such as San Benedetto Po and Mantua.
