The Val di Ledro State Road 240, which has been closed since February 11th due to a rockslide, will be reopened at the beginning of May. During a recent inspection by the authorities of the Autonomous Province of Trento, the progress of the intervention was assessed, which has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions. Once reopened, the road will be accessible with alternating one-way traffic.
During the same inspection, a temporary solution was also defined for the transportation of students attending schools between Riva del Garda, Varone, and Arco. Thanks to agreements with Trentino Trasporti and the Trentino Autonoleggiatori Consortium, extraordinary transport services have been organized and will be in effect from today, Monday, April 15th.
The intervention on State Road 240 has been quite complex due to the presence of a hydroelectric power plant within the affected rock face. It was necessary to temporarily move the backbone of the telephone line in Val di Ledro before being able to proceed with the demolition of the unstable volumes. During the works, almost 2,000 cubic meters of rock were removed using remote-controlled machinery to ensure the safety of the workers. Metal nets were also installed to protect the road.
Currently, the reconstruction of the damaged retaining wall is being completed, and additional work is being carried out to consolidate the wall downstream of the road. The aim is to fully reopen the road by the beginning of May, although some work will still need to be done to restore safety barriers and the pedestrian and cycling path.
