Cristina Stratan testified before the Court of Assizes in the trial against her brother Dumitru, who is accused of premeditated murder and concealing the body of his ex-girlfriend Yana Malaiko. During her testimony, Cristina recalled how her brother had confessed to the crime immediately after committing it, saying “I killed her like she killed me.” She also described the deterioration of the relationship between Yana and Dumitru, exacerbated by her brother’s substance abuse and their inability to have children.
On January 20, 2023, Cristina received a call from her brother begging her to declare his innocence. However, noticing Yana’s absence and finding her cellphone in the guest room, Cristina alerted the police, leading to Dumitru’s arrest. In court, Cristina attempted to defend her brother by denying previous accusations of violence against other women and trying to discredit Andrej Cojocaru, another man involved with Yana. Cristina’s testimony will be crucial in determining her brother’s legal fate.
