Desenzano: the lifeless body of a young wolf found. In recent hours, a young wolf was discovered dead near the roundabout close to the McDonald’s in Desenzano. The animal was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road; the report was made to the Provincial Police, who retrieved the body yesterday morning, Monday, February 24.
The presence of a wolf in an urbanized area like this is related to the phenomenon of dispersal, a phase in which young wolves seek new territories and companions to form new packs. This process, while essential for the genetic variability of the species, carries significant risks: wolves face periods of uncertainty and high mortality during their journey to new areas. It is hypothesized that the recovered specimen originated from the Apennines and was searching for a new habitat in the surrounding mountains.
