The project for the new hospital in Desenzano, planned in the Montecroce area, continues to raise concerns due to hydrogeological issues in the chosen location. In a public meeting organized by the local Democratic Party on May 6th, various political forces, including the Five Star Movement, Action, and Italian Left, asked the Lombardy Region to reconsider possible alternatives. Right-wing political forces governing the city were absent from the meeting. Participants emphasized the need to ensure the safety of the hospital without necessarily building a new one.
Further discussions are scheduled in the coming weeks with trade unions, healthcare workers, and industry associations. The criticism focuses on the fact that the identified area is defined as a “watershed” with complex hydrogeological problems and unsuitable for future expansions. All those present agree on the need for a safe hospital and request a more thorough evaluation of alternatives, including bringing the old hospital up to code or constructing it in another area.
