In Desenzano, a new group of citizens has recently formed to oppose the construction of a new healthcare facility in the area. The “Committee for the Defense of the Desenzano Hospital” made its public debut last Monday evening, aiming to express its opposition to the closure of the currently operational hospital located in the Monte Croce area.
Reasons for Opposition
The committee, made up of around fifteen members, also receives support from the local minority party. They have already voiced their dissent regarding the regional decision about the future of the existing hospital. Many citizens are questioning why there are no plans for renovating the current facility to meet modern seismic standards.
Details on the New Project
The new healthcare facility will be built within the local park of inter-municipal interest and will involve a significant investment estimated at over 142 million euros. Recently, regional councilor Guido Bertolaso provided further details about the project in response to an inquiry from the M5S and Sinistra Italiana groups. However, the explanations given were not deemed satisfactory by councilor Andrea Spiller from the Five Star Movement.
Committee Demands
The committee is urging the municipal administration to take a stance regarding the decision to build a new facility from scratch. This choice would not only lead to further land consumption but also increase the economic costs associated with the project. It is important to note that the authorization and project processes remain under the jurisdiction of the Lombardy Region, but the opposing front continues to push for a review of the choices made thus far.
