The digiatalization of medical prescriptions in Lombardy, scheduled for 2025, marks a significant step towards bidding farewell to paper. The General Directorate of Welfare of the Region has informed doctors and pharmacists that, during the transition phase, it will still be possible to issue paper prescriptions for medications and outpatient services not covered by the National Health Service (SSN). This measure has been adopted to ensure the continuity of healthcare services and to reduce inconveniences for citizens.
Pharmacies will continue to dispense medications based on non-digitalized paper prescriptions, while authorized private entities will maintain the use of standard white prescriptions. The digitalization will primarily focus on prescriptions covered by the SSN and those for specific territorial services. We are now awaiting the issuance of operational guidelines from the relevant national authorities, with the aim of improving the efficiency of healthcare services and ensuring greater safety in the medical prescription process for all citizens of Lombardy.
