The historical and cultural architecture of Riva del Garda is enriched by the opportunity to explore the works of architect Giancarlo Maroni, known primarily for his work at the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera. This guided tour offers an in-depth look at Maroni’s local creations, highlighting the connection between the architect and his hometown.
Located within the Vittoriale, the Giancarlo Maroni Museum of the Holy Factory in the Casseretto, which served as both his residence and the headquarters of the Holy Factory, represents an extraordinary example of the contrast between the sober spaces designed by Maroni and the opulence of the Prioria. The museum houses a vast collection of books with personal dedications from Commander Gabriele D’Annunzio to his architect, as well as drawings, sketches, and designs that illustrate the ongoing evolution of the works created for the Vittoriale.
Among the pieces exhibited in the museum are also study models for some of the most imposing structures in the complex: the Mausoleum, the Schifamondo, and the Open-air Theater. A video featuring Giordano Bruno Guerri, president of the Vittoriale degli Italiani Foundation, accompanies visitors through the history of the Holy Factory.
The Bond between Maroni and Riva del Garda
Not everyone knows that Giancarlo Maroni was originally from Riva del Garda. This connection has always aroused great interest in Gabriele D’Annunzio, who deeply admired his collaborator. The natural beauty of the Gulf of Riva and the numerous professional activities carried out by Maroni in his hometown further strengthened this connection.
The guided tour conducted by Professor Crosina allows participants not only to better understand the unique style of the architect from Garda but also to appreciate his works directly in the territory where he lived and worked.
