During the Easter holidays, the Municipality of Brescia and the Brescia Museums Foundation offer a rich program of initiatives to enjoy the city’s cultural heritage. It will be possible to visit the exhibitions “Lorenzo Lotto: Imagined Encounters” and “The Expedition of the Thousand: Memory and Story in Giuseppe Nodari’s Pictorial Reportage” on their last days of opening.
At the Santa Giulia Museum, it will be possible to visit the important solo exhibition dedicated to Franco Fontana, one of the pioneers of color photography. The exhibition presents 122 images created by the Maestro between 1961 and 2017 and is the result of extensive research and restoration work on the artist’s works.
Also at the Santa Giulia Museum, there will be an exhibition commemorating the Piazza della Loggia massacre, which occurred in 1974 during a demonstration against neofascist terrorism. The exhibition takes inspiration from some photographs taken minutes after the bomb explosion and represents a historical testimony of the event.
In the Affresco Hall of the Santa Giulia Museum, visitors can explore the exhibition “The Expedition of the Thousand: Memory and Story in Giuseppe Nodari’s Pictorial Reportage,” which tells the story of the expedition through twenty watercolors and a notebook by the author.
At the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo, visitors can see the exhibition “Lorenzo Lotto: Imagined Encounters,” which tells the real or imagined encounters of the painter with other artists of his time. The exhibition is based on five works by Lorenzo Lotto and other masters of the Brescia 16th century.
During the long Easter weekend, it will also be possible to visit the new public spaces of the Museums, such as the UNESCO Corridor, the cloisters of the Santa Giulia Museum, and the Sculpture Park of the Viridarium.
For families with children, the Brescia Museums Foundation organizes the Spring Camp, as well as the museum app-game for children called “Geronimo Stilton. Brescia Musei Adventures,” which allows young visitors to discover the history of the museums through the use of augmented reality.
Special guided tours are available for adults at the Risorgimento Museum “Leonessa d’Italia” and the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo.
It is worth noting that all Brescia residents have the opportunity to access the permanent exhibition spaces of the museums in Brescia free of charge.
