Ettore Santarelli, a prominent figure in the world of sailing in Desenzano, was commemorated last Saturday on the centenary of his birth at the Fraglia Vela Desenzano. The event featured the presentation of the book “Ettore Santarelli, Dreamer of Boats,” written by architect Piero Vantini, which recounted the career of this brilliant designer, known for his innovative and high-performance boats. The room was filled with over a hundred attendees, including sailors and friends, all united in paying tribute to a man who left an indelible mark on the history of boating.
During the evening, moving videos were screened, and personal memories were shared by those present. Santarelli, originally from Ravenna and having arrived on Lake Garda in 1957, created iconic models such as the Strale and the Asso 99. His vision has influenced generations of sailors and continues to inspire even today, thanks to the efforts of new enthusiasts dedicated to promoting his creations. The deputy mayor of Desenzano emphasized the importance of his contributions to the local sailing scene, affirming his status as a legend of sailing on Lake Garda.
