On October 31, 2024, Lombardy approved a resolution to provide additional funding to provincial police forces to enhance the control of the wild boar population and combat African swine fever (ASF). A total amount of 600,000 euros will be distributed over the two-year period of 2025-2026, with a fixed allocation of 80,000 euros for each province, along with additional funds based on the number of wild boars culled and the pigs raised in their respective areas.
Councillor Beduschi emphasized the importance of these measures in collaboration with the extraordinary commissioner Giovanni Filippini, which include the culling of wild boars, strengthening road barriers, and epidemiological surveillance. With the arrival of winter, a time when the effects of the virus tend to diminish, it will be crucial to intensify preventive actions and actively monitor wild boar carcasses to contain the outbreak.
