The Archeo Nature Park of Fiavè recently hosted a significant ceremony on Tuesday, April 8, during which the presidency of the UNESCO site “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings of the Alpine Region” was officially transferred from Germany to Italy. This event took place in the Depero Hall in Trento and was attended by key institutional figures, including Franco Marzatico, the General Director of the UMSt Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Activities, who will lead the Italian representation for the next two years. The choice of Trento as the venue for the ceremony highlights the importance of the province, which is home to two globally recognized pile dwelling sites: Fiavè and Ledro.
During the meeting, crucial topics related to the protection and enhancement of the pile dwellings were discussed, emphasizing how these archaeological sites are essential for understanding the origins of Alpine populations. Marzatico stressed the importance of safeguarding this unique heritage and the challenges posed by climate change that threaten their preservation. With a total of 111 archaeological sites included in the UNESCO project, Fiavè reaffirms its status as a key location for the study of human history in Europe.
