The Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia hosts a series of exhibitions dedicated to photography, with a particular focus on Franco Fontana, one of the most renowned contemporary photographers. The exhibition titled “Color”, curated by Studio Fontana and promoted by the Brescia Musei Foundation in collaboration with Macof, has achieved great success and will be extended until August 25.
A Visual Journey with Franco Fontana
The exhibition offers visitors the chance to explore 122 images taken between 1961 and 2017, highlighting the use of color in the artist’s works. Through his photographs, Fontana transforms everyday elements into extraordinary visual experiences. His works depict colorful landscapes, from sunlit fields to deserted beaches, as well as urban details like gardens and signs.
Fontana employs both analog and digital techniques, providing a rich and varied narrative of daily life through his artistic lens. The exhibition is an integral part of the VII edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, whose central theme is “Witnesses,” emphasizing the fundamental role of photography in documenting significant events and stories.
Other Exhibitions Not to Be Missed
Alongside Fontana’s exhibition, there is also one dedicated to Maurizio Galimberti, titled “Brescia, Piazza Loggia 1974.” This exhibition commemorates the tragedy that occurred on May 28, 1974, offering a profound reflection on collective memory. Visitors will be able to admire a concluding collage-mosaic that includes symbols such as a butterfly, representing the quest for freedom.
Additionally, the exhibition “Gabriele Micalizzi. Legacy. Matter-History-Identity,” will be open until September 1. All these exhibitions are part of the initiatives promoted by the festival to raise public awareness on crucial issues through visual art.
Weekly Guided Tours
Every Sunday at 3 PM, guided tours are scheduled to accompany participants through this stimulating exhibition path. The tours not only provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the exhibited works but also lead to reflections on the historical events addressed in the exhibitions.
“We Are Witnesses” Initiative
Until December 16, the exhibition “WE ARE WITNESSES” is also active at the Casa della Memoria in Palazzo Martinengo delle Palle. This commemorative exhibition celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Piazza Loggia massacre and gathers significant testimonies related to the long judicial journey tied to the events of May 28, 1974. The exhibition underscores the importance of collective memory within the Brescia community and presents the various forms that public memory has taken over time.
