Giovanni Girardi, a resident of Lazise, has recently been appointed Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Sergio Mattarella. This recognition represents the second level in the scale of honors conferred by the head of state to individuals who have distinguished themselves in volunteering, social, philanthropic, or sports activities.
Born in San Martino Buonalbergo, Girardi moved to Lazise in 1967 and is currently retired after a career in the wholesale household and hardware sector. Although he has never played soccer, his great passion is the world of youth soccer. He dedicates his free time to the Lazise youth soccer team, supporting and encouraging them during training. Girardi represents the authentic soul of Lazise soccer and has been a passionate supporter of the Amatori Lazise and First Team for thirty years.
But his activities are not limited to soccer. Girardi has also served as president of the Bisse association for several years and is involved in numerous other social initiatives. He is a blood donor at Avis and is part of the Pacengo Walkers Group. His dedication to others makes him a true volcano of charitable activities for the community.
In 2011, he had already received the honor of Knight, and now, on December 27, 2023, Girardi has been conferred the rank of Officer. This new recognition from the President of the Republic is a great satisfaction and an unexpected emotion for him, especially since the letter from the Prefect of Verona was delivered to him on his birthday.
Girardi commented emotionally, “It is an immense pride to receive this additional recognition from the President of the Republic. It came unexpectedly, and it is a coincidence that it was delivered to me on my birthday. Yes, I work a lot for others, for sports, and for philanthropic activities in Lazise, but I do it with simplicity and the desire to be with people. Being useful to others deeply gratifies me. I dedicate this wonderful honor to my family and all the friends I have met in the world of sports and volunteering.”
