On Monday, July 8th, Sirmione will be the starting point of the second stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, with the cyclists heading towards Volta Mantovana. This event follows other important sporting events such as the Mille Miglia and Swim the Island, solidifying Sirmione as a vital center for sports.
The day will begin at 10:00 am in Piazzale Porto with the presentation of the teams and the stamping of the riders’ cards. At 11:35 am, the athletes will start a 102 km route that will take them from the shores of Lake Garda into the Brescia plain. The itinerary will pass through various locations including Lonato, Montichiari, Asola, and Medole, before reaching Guidizzolo where a circuit will begin leading to the final finish line in Volta Mantovana.
The Giro d’Italia Women is not just a high-level cycling competition; it also represents an opportunity to raise awareness about relevant social issues. As a testament to this, the Municipality of Sirmione has installed a red/pink bench on Via Salvo D’Acquisto as a symbol of the campaign against gender-based violence.
