Renato Zaghini has been unanimously reappointed for a second term as President of the Grana Padano Protection Consortium. The appointment took place during the first meeting of the board of directors, which was elected at the general assembly on April 18. Zaghini, a 68-year-old from Mantua, has been leading the Caseificio Europeo Società Agricola Cooperativa in Bagnolo San Vito (MN) for 25 years and served as treasurer of the Consortium for 17 years before becoming president.
During his first term, which began during the height of the pandemic, Zaghini ensured the continuity of Grana Padano production, supporting over 3,800 dairy farms and 50,000 operators in the supply chain. In 2023, production reached 5,456,500 wheels, an increase of 4.69% compared to the previous year, consolidating Grana Padano as the most consumed PDO cheese in the world, with exports exceeding 48%.
Zaghini’s second term will be characterized by the implementation of a new multi-year production and strategic plan, aimed at meeting the new dietary needs of consumers and strengthening Grana Padano’s position in international markets. The plan will be operational from January 1, 2025, following the expected approval in November 2024.
Joining Zaghini in his mandate until 2028 will be Attilio Zanetti as deputy vice president, Giacomo Fugazza as vice president, and Valter Giacomelli as treasurer. The Consortium’s Board of Directors and commissions will involve numerous members in defining and implementing future strategies.
