Today, the conference “The Future is Open Air” took place in Lazise, organized by FAITA-Federcamping, to discuss the expansion of open-air tourism in Italy. The data presented indicates an annual revenue of eight billion euros, with 11.4 million arrivals and 71 million overnight stays expected in 2024, marking an increase of 3.5% and 1.3%, respectively, compared to the previous year. FAITA-Federcamping President Alberto Granzotto emphasized the growing quality of tourist facilities and the importance of investments in innovation and sustainability.
Despite these positive results, the sector faces uncertainty due to the economic situation in Germany, which accounts for 65% of tourists in the campsites around Lake Garda. Between March and September 2024, the occupancy of open-air facilities in the region rose to 73.8%, but businesses are reporting increased caution from German tourists. Tourism operators are also struggling to find local staff, a challenge exacerbated by high accommodation costs.
