The construction site for the second phase of the renovation of the lakeside promenade in Desenzano has officially begun, a project that has been awaited since 2011. The intervention, which involves the removal of the Feltrinelli beach, will create a new walkway approximately 250 meters long and up to 16 meters wide extending towards the lake. The total cost of the operation is €3.685 million, with funding coming from both the Municipality and the Basin Authority. The works, contracted to Mdr srl, are expected to be completed in about 240 days, aiming to open at least the promenade by Easter.
However, the project has sparked controversy: Councillor Andrea Spiller criticized the initiative, labeling it a “concrete pouring” that will cover a vast lakeside area. The Feltrinelli beach, managed by Margherita Torelli for over twenty-five years, will be almost entirely dismantled; only a restored pier will remain. In addition to the light granite paving and new urban furnishings, the installation of the sculpture “Inside Two Sails” by local artist Walter Xausa is also planned.
