In the past few hours, during the first day of the World Relays in Nassau, the long-awaited verdict has arrived: Italy has qualified for the upcoming Olympics in Paris with the 4×100 relay, putting up a strong performance and led by a in-form Marcel Jacobs, thanks to their second-place finish in the heats behind the USA.
The Italian team, composed of Roberto Rigali, Marcell Jacobs, Lorenzo Patta, and Filippo Tortu, will now have the opportunity to defend the historic gold medal they won during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, with the five-ring event scheduled to take place in less than three months in the French capital (July 26 – August 11).
Particularly noteworthy is the performance of the Desenzano-born sprinter, whose stride has returned to high levels, clocking an excellent time of 9.04. The Italian team finished with a time of 38.14, the seventh fastest time in Italian history, only beaten by the United States’ 37.49.
The Nassau event is, of course, not over yet, as the Italian team will return to the track for the final against the USA, France, Great Britain, Canada, Jamaica, Japan, and China, scheduled for tonight.
