The President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, is expected today in Montichiari to participate in the celebrations of the 160th anniversary of the founding of the Italian Red Cross. After his expected arrival in the early afternoon, Mattarella will go to Castiglione delle Stiviere to greet the volunteers and take part in the traditional torchlight procession, which will start from Castello Square at 6:30 pm and end at Parco Pastore. The event will see the participation of around 6,000 accredited volunteers.
During the visit, the Head of State will also visit the International Museum of the Red Cross in Castiglione delle Stiviere, a historical symbol of the humanitarian institution founded after the Battle of Solferino in 1859. Mattarella’s presence underlines the historical and current importance of the Red Cross as a neutral and independent organization dedicated to humanitarian assistance. The day will conclude with the arrival of the participants at Parco Pastore around 8:30-9:00 pm, where a moment of entertainment and refreshments is planned for the volunteers.
