The 18th edition of “Mechanics of Wonder” kicked off on Saturday, May 25th, presenting a series of contemporary art exhibitions curated by Albano Morandi. The event involves international artists whose works are displayed in prestigious architectural and natural spaces in the province of Brescia and along Lake Garda, until September.
This edition includes six solo exhibitions that highlight prominent names in Italian art. Among the participating artists are Antonio Violetta with his sculptures exhibited at Palazzo Averoldi in Brescia, Giuliana Cunéaz with an interactive digital project at the Museum of Natural Sciences, also in Brescia, and the collective The Bounty KillArt at MO.CA – Center for New Cultures. In addition, Fabio Racheli presents a monumental vegetal installation in the Park of the Castle of Moniga del Garda, Michele Zaza exhibits at the Vittorio Leonesio Foundation in Puegnago del Garda, and Marco Pellizzola at the Church of the Historic Cemetery of San Felice del Benaco.
Founded in 2003, “Mechanics of Wonder” is recognized as one of the most stable initiatives dedicated to contemporary visual arts in the Brescia area. The project stands out for its intention to relate the artists’ works to the physical places that host them, creating a dialogue between history, poetry, and art.
Albano Morandi describes his vision as follows: “My curatorial activity uses artists and places to make them interact. I don’t choose artists based on my personal taste, but rather considering the type of intervention that can be realized in that specific place.”
The inaugural exhibitions feature Giuliana Cunéaz at the Museum of Natural Sciences, presenting a site-specific project with augmented reality developed by Gotham Studio – Digital agency. The exhibition is curated by Ilaria Bignotti, Melania Massaro, and Camilla Remondina and can be visited from May 25th to September 7th, 2024.
Michele Zaza exhibits two site-specific installations titled “Cielo zero” at the Vittorio Leonesio Foundation, including wooden sculptures and characteristic photographic portraits in his style. The exhibition is curated by Flaminio Gualdoni and will be open from May 26th to November 3rd, 2024.
Marco Pellizzola explores celestial themes with the installation “Il peso delle stelle” (The Weight of the Stars) at the Church of the Historic Cemetery. Curated by Mariacristina Maccarinelli, the exhibition will be accessible from May 26th to July 28th, 2024.
The exhibition projects include The Bounty KillArt, an elegant collective of sculptures from Turin, which will be exhibited in the frescoed rooms of MO.CA from June 15th to July 28th, 2024. Curated by Allegra Ravizza and Beatrice Zanello, this exhibition offers a refined parody of our era through classical iconography reinterpreted in a modern key.
Antonio Violetta leads visitors on a journey through his sculptural cycles in the sixteenth-century halls of Palazzo Averoldi. Curated by Elena Scuri, the exhibition will be open from June 15th to July 28th, 2024.
Fabio Racheli presents “Entr’acte,” a large temporary natural installation in the Park of the Castle of Moniga del Garda. The artwork invites visitors to rediscover ancient gestures through small natural sculptures arranged along the exhibition path. Curated by Ilaria Bignotti and Camilla Remondina, the exhibition will be visitable from June 16th to August 31st, 2024.
The “Mechanics of Wonder” exhibition continues to enrich the local cultural landscape thanks to its unique ability to intertwine contemporary art with evocative historical and natural contexts.
