The Calcio Desenzano club has officially announced the first “Memorial Lorenzo Cela,” a youth tournament that will take place at the “Maraviglia-Durighello” Sports Center in memory of the 16-year-old Desenzanese who tragically lost his life in a car accident on August 11th. The event, dedicated to the 2011 and 2012 age groups, will feature a qualification phase during the weekend of May 24 and 25, followed by the final phase from May 31 to June 2, with the participation of professional teams, including the U14 youth team of Calcio Desenzano.
This significant initiative will allocate part of the proceeds to benefit pediatric oncology wards at the “Spedali Civili di Brescia” and the Albanian hospital in Tirana, in accordance with Lorenzo’s family’s wishes. Claudio Monese, head of the Youth Sector, commented: “This is an event we would have never wanted to organize… but we can send a message to all young people so that what happened can teach them something.”
