The Merla Dive, a highly anticipated winter tradition, will take place on Sunday, January 26, starting at 11 AM at the Lake Ledro. The organizers invite all enthusiasts to come in costume for a collective plunge scheduled for exactly noon. This event, which celebrates cold and joy, began in 2009 as a playful challenge among various groups of divers, and has since become a staple for the community.
The tradition of the Merla Dive coincides with the “Merla days,” considered the coldest days of the year, specifically January 29, 30, and 31. According to legend, a white merla, seeking refuge in a chimney to escape the frost, turned black. This year, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the icy waters of the alpine lake at an altitude of 650 meters, paying homage to this historic winter tradition.
