Recently, Moniga has seen rising concerns among local merchants due to a construction site in the square, which has led to a significant drop in revenue. Businesses nearby report losses of up to 60% compared to the same period last year, exacerbated by the prolonged closure of Via Carlo Alberto, the main access to the square. Merchants are calling for greater attention from the municipal administration, believing that the support they have received during the construction has been insufficient.
The mayor of Moniga, Renato Marcoli, emphasized that the closure of the road is necessary for safety reasons related to the construction site and assured that work on the affected stretch will begin soon, aiming to restore traffic to Piazza San Martino by Easter. However, the total completion of the works is expected by June, with the intervention costing the municipality 1.6 million euros. Delays have been caused by bad weather and unforeseen circumstances.
