The latest hearing in the V Territory, Infrastructure and Mobility Commission of the Lombardy Region, requested by Regional Councillor Claudia Carzeri, addressed the issue of Montichiari “G. D’Annunzio” Airport in the province of Brescia. During the hearing, a delegation from the Save Group S.p.a, the company that manages the airport, and the new airport director, Francesco Follonari, were hosted.
“An important meeting,” explains Carzeri, “because it defined the common goals of politics and society and implemented a dialogue that will also unite different thoughts for the good of the airport. With the new director Follonari, we are ready to restart, bringing together representatives from Veneto and Lombardy who care about the infrastructure, leaving the divisions of the past behind.”
The Save Group has expressed its willingness to invest the 100 million euros provided for in the business plan for the airport’s relaunch. However, bureaucracy has slowed down operations at the airport, particularly obtaining urban compatibility, which is currently under review. Once urban compatibility is obtained, new investments and projects for the airport can be evaluated.
Currently, there is a lack of demand from airlines for passenger routes, but once the bureaucratic issues are resolved, efforts can be made to attract airlines and expand the flight offerings. The Save Group has explained that there is a willingness to invest in passenger routes, but airlines currently prioritize other logistical hubs.
Politics must address this issue to ensure the best path for the airport. The goal is to make Montichiari Airport a point of reference for the entire province of Brescia, which is productive, industrial, and agricultural.
Dialogue between the stakeholders is crucial to get the most out of an airport that could become a point of reference for the entire province of Brescia. The synergy between the productive, industrial, and agricultural sectors of the province could fuel the development of the airport and its peculiarities.
