A growing number of municipalities are opposing the Garda wastewater treatment plant project, which involves discharging wastewater into the Chiese River. During a recent meeting in Bedizzole, mayors reaffirmed their opposition to five key issues: the discharge into the Chiese, top-down impositions, the absence of a Strategic Environmental Assessment, the inadequate nature of the project, and the lack of financial resources. The mayors of Calcinato, Carpenedolo, Visano, Villanuova sul Clisi, and Idro have joined the existing agreement among the opposing municipalities.
Next week, a delegation of mayors will meet with the new Extraordinary Commissioner to express their concerns and present a complaint to the Court of Auditors. The goal is to protect the Chiese River from interventions that could compromise the local ecosystem and the quality of life for residents. The involved administrations intend to continue working together to ensure the safeguarding of the territory and the river environment.
