The commemoration of November 4th, National Unity and Armed Forces Day, was celebrated this year under the motto “We Are Italy,” chosen by the Ministry of Defense, reflecting the identity and strength of the country. This national holiday, established by the recent law of March 1, 2024, no. 27, aims to strengthen the bond between citizens and the Armed Forces, as enshrined in Article 52 of the Constitution, and commemorates the conclusion of World War I, a historical event that completed the territorial and ideal unity of the nation.
In Brescia, the celebrations began on November 2nd at the Vantiniano Monumental Cemetery, where a commemorative ceremony was held to honor the fallen of the Great War. The ceremony was attended by an Interforce Honor Guard, representatives of Veterans’ Associations and local institutions. On November 4th, the official event took place in Piazza della Loggia, presided over by the Prefect of Brescia, Andrea Polichetti. Civil, religious, and military authorities participated, along with a large representation of students who symbolically received the Flag of the Italian Republic as a sign of continuity between generations. During the event, students from the “Abba Ballini” Technical Institute, “Benedetto Castelli,” and “Olivieri Tartaglia” had the opportunity to learn closely about the values embodied by the Italian Armed Forces.
The Special Opening of Ghedi Airport
At Ghedi, the “Luigi Olivari” Military Airport hosted one of the most anticipated initiatives of the day: thousands of enthusiasts had the chance to access the exhibition area of the 6th Wing, admiring the aircraft in service such as the PA-200 Tornado and the F-35 Lightning II. The visit provided a glimpse into the history of Italian Aviation, from its beginnings to the modern systems used today. Colonel Luca Giuseppe Vitaliti, commander of the Interforce Presidio, emphasized the significant participation of the public, which demonstrated its support and interest in the history and values of the Armed Forces.
The Italian Armed Forces, now as in the past, represent a resource that the country can always rely on. Currently, in addition to being engaged in international missions in complex geopolitical contexts, they participate in the Strade Sicure operation in support of police forces and are active in national air defense. The celebration of November 4th is not only a tribute to history but also an opportunity to reinforce the values of freedom, unity, and national pride that the Armed Forces continue to represent.
