‘Ndrangheta in Brescia: 25 arrests and seizures exceeding 1.8 million euros. This morning, the State Police and the Financial Police executed a precautionary custody order against 25 individuals, residing in various Italian provinces and also in Spain. The measure resulted in the preventive seizure of assets worth over 1,800,000 euros. Concurrently, the Carabinieri implemented precautionary measures against 8 individuals linked to the mafia organization, accused of crimes such as illegal possession of firearms, money laundering, and usury, aggravated by mafia methods.
The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Brescia – Anti-Mafia District Directorate and initiated in September 2020, revealed the existence of a “locale” operating in Brescia with operational capabilities typical of mafia groups, such as extortion and arms trafficking. Investigators documented connections with other criminal groups and a system of mutual assistance for illicit activities. The involvement of a well-known individual was also uncovered, who allegedly maintained relations with the organization to facilitate political-mafia electoral exchanges. Currently, large-scale searches are being conducted by approximately 300 law enforcement agents, supported by technical means and canine units.
