A serious incident has shaken the tranquility of Lake Garda when a man, after diving into the waters in front of the Municipality of Gargnano, did not resurface. The alarm was raised by a group of Austrian tourists who, being on a boat nearby, noticed the man in distress and then disappear into the deep bottom over 200 meters.
Authorities were promptly alerted through the emergency number 112, with the call being directed to the Operational Room of the Coast Guard of Lake Garda. The Coast Guard immediately initiated search operations, coordinating various means and resources.
Two Coast Guard vessels equipped with maritime rescuers have arrived at the scene and are conducting water searches using snorkeling techniques. Supporting the operations is also a naval vehicle from the Fire Department of Salò and a helicopter from the Fire Department. In addition, specialized divers from the Fire Department are coming from Milan to contribute to the underwater searches.
Meanwhile, the missing man’s boat has been transferred to the port of Gargnano, where local Carabinieri are collecting testimonies from tourists who witnessed the incident to obtain further details useful for the investigation.
To enhance the effectiveness of the underwater searches, the Prefecture of Brescia has requested the intervention of the Volontari del Garda, equipped with advanced equipment for deep explorations. The activities will continue uninterrupted with the additional support of the Guardia Finanza and additional naval units from the Fire Department.
The operation remains under the strict coordination of the Operational Room of the Coast Guard of Lake Garda, which is directing all efforts towards finding the missing man.
