The Civil Protection has issued an orange weather alert for Lake Garda and the Po Valley due to the imminent arrival of an Atlantic trough that could bring strong thunderstorms. This warning specifically applies to the afternoon of Friday, June 21st, when a significant increase in atmospheric instability is expected.
According to yesterday’s bulletin, heavy showers and thunderstorms of considerable intensity are also expected. These phenomena could cause disruptions to road traffic, with potential flooding due to heavy rainfall and damage caused by large hailstones.
“The afternoon will see a progressive increase in instability starting from the west, with widespread showers and thunderstorms over the Alps and Pre-Alps,” declared the Civil Protection. The involvement of the areas of the central and upper plain is expected subsequently, albeit with low forecast reliability. Isolated phenomena could occur in the lower plain and the Apennines.
Detailed forecasts:
During the most intense thunderstorms, medium to large-sized hail accompanied by strong gusts of wind is possible. In the alpine and pre-alpine areas, convective precipitation could become semi-stationary and persistent over very localized areas, with accumulations of up to 80-100 mm in a few hours.
The situation requires attention for both residents in the affected areas and those traveling through these areas. The Civil Protection will continue to monitor the evolution of weather conditions to provide timely updates.
