The Municipality of Padenghe has decided to actively involve its citizens in the fight against the spread of the processionary caterpillar. Through a public notice addressed to all owners of conifers and resinous trees, they are required to carry out mandatory pest control interventions to prevent the presence of this insect.
The processionary caterpillar is an extremely dangerous lepidopteran, especially for pets. Direct contact with this insect can cause serious harm to the health of animals. In particular, if they sniff the ground, they can unintentionally ingest the urticating hairs that cover the body of the processionary caterpillar. These hairs are used as a defensive mechanism by the insect and can cause very strong allergic reactions, sometimes even fatal for animals.
To address this issue, Mayor Albino Zuliani is inviting citizens to report the presence of the parasite, even on private properties, to the Municipality’s Environmental Office. The objective is to prevent the spread of the processionary caterpillar and protect the health of animals.
