The Court of Review in Venice has lifted the seizure of Mauro Gianmoena’s assets, the owner of a car rental and sales business in Peschiera del Garda, who was accused of aggravated fraud. The decision, made on June 6, 2024, by Judge Peter Michaeler, follows the cancellation of the pretrial detention order in April. Gianmoena’s lawyers had appealed against the seizure of assets worth over €274,000, including a villa, company shares, watches, and jewelry.
The investigation by the Financial Guard had led to the denunciation of Gianmoena by customers who had not received the cars they purchased despite making advance payments. The alleged incidents date back to the period between June 2022 and January 2024. However, the defense argues that it is merely a contractual breach since the contracts specified that the cars were not yet in possession of the companies linked to Gianmoena. The court’s decision could have an impact on the money laundering charge.
