The online petition calling for improvements to the Garda cycle path project in the municipality of Bardolino has gathered over 100 signatures in just a few days. The protest was sparked by the approval, by the Bardolino municipal council, of an agreement with Veneto Strade for the passage of the cycle path through the municipal territory.
According to the petition’s promoters, the choice of the route presents numerous issues, including the loss of natural soil, the cutting of numerous trees, the loss of biodiversity, and damage to the traditional rural landscape. Furthermore, it highlights the potential worsening of overall mobility and excessive construction of infrastructure.
Therefore, the citizens are asking the mayor and the administration to temporarily suspend the execution of the project in order to make improvements. A report has been drafted that suggests possible interventions focused on the preservation of nature and the landscape.
The petition is open to both residents and non-residents of Bardolino. In addition to online signatures, paper signatures have also been collected.
The estimated cost for the construction of the cycle path is approximately 7.5 million euros. According to the petition’s promoters, the public has never been involved in the decision-making process, and there has been no public debate on the project.
