A retiree from Moniga thwarted a phone scam thanks to his quick thinking and common sense. After receiving a call from a fake postal worker asking for information about a registered letter addressed to his son, the elderly man was also contacted by an alleged marshal from the Carabinieri, who simulated a serious accident involving the young man. Realizing the deception, the retiree promptly responded by stating that he would send a lawyer to the scene, thereby ending the conversation.
Following this incident, the man immediately alerted the real law enforcement authorities. This case is part of a new wave of phone scams in the Valtenesi area, which have already been reported to the Carabinieri. It is unclear whether the criminals intended to lure the victim out of his home to rob him or if they were simply trying to extort money through a meeting. Authorities always advise not to trust such calls and to contact law enforcement immediately in suspicious situations.
