Yesterday evening, the project for the construction of the new multipurpose sports center was presented to the Lonato dle Garda City Council. This initiative is fundamental in the municipal administration’s programmatic guidelines. The project, part of the second update to the Unique Programming Document (DUP) 2024/2026, aims to redevelop unused areas and promote the community through sports.
The new sports center has a dual objective: to promote the community and redevelop disused areas in the municipal territory, creating an urban area dedicated to sports. The municipal administration has always attached great importance to sports activities as a tool to promote a healthy lifestyle, physical and mental well-being, and socialization and social integration.
The project involves the construction of a multipurpose sports facility with fields, open spaces, and equipment for recreational, educational, inclusive, and sports activities. Two distinct lots will be developed: one dedicated to football and the other to other sports.
Architect Roberto di Gregorio from Studio D+BM presented the technical and regulatory aspects of the project, from design choices to urban and building aspects, sports standards, and procurement and financing methods. The area designated for the sports center, which covers almost 90,000 square meters, was acquired in 2011, and the project was developed in collaboration with local stakeholders to meet the needs of various sports disciplines.
The football lot includes the construction of two sports fields: a regulation field for Serie A (105.00 x 68.00 m) with changing rooms and stands, and another for 7-a-side football (55.00 x 35.00 m). This lot will also include complementary works and urbanization to ensure the usability of the facility. Ground redistribution works will be necessary, with facilities at different levels. The financing for this lot will be entirely borne by the municipality through a loan of €5,750,000.
The second lot involves the creation of multisport spaces, including paddle tennis courts, tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, a multipurpose court (volleyball/basketball), changing rooms, a reception/entrance area, and a refreshment/bar area. This lot will be realized through a 25-year concession, where the concessionaire will cover the costs of the works, benefiting from the proceeds of the management.
The entire sports center will be inclusive and accessible to all, including people with motor disabilities. Flat or moderately sloping paths and walkways will be built, wide enough for wheelchair passage and maneuvering.
The project includes a parking area with entrances from via Fenil Nuovo Molini, designed to accommodate both regular users and during competitive events. The public parking will offer 82 parking spaces, while the reserved area for athletes will offer 39 spaces, including spaces for parking and maneuvering team buses.
Additional interventions are planned for public lighting, the installation of urban furniture, and deterrents to separate traffic areas from pedestrian areas. The tender for the allocation of the two lots is being prepared and is expected to be published by July. The works will take approximately 90 weeks.
“The presentation of this project means, first and foremost, providing a concrete response to the needs of the youth community and all sports enthusiasts. Our task now is to work to develop this reality, completing all the necessary operations for the publication of the public tender, the awarding of the works, and the subscription to the Sports Credit that will finance the project. The development of the project has been a complex and laborious process, requiring great work from the municipal offices and technicians, people whom I thank for their collaboration with the administration to create this sports center, or rather a multifunctional meeting point that will range from football to many other disciplines,” emphasized the Budget and Heritage Councilor, Massimo Castellini.
“Tonight we have shared an important step in achieving the goals we set ourselves four years ago when defining the programmatic guidelines of our mandate. It is truly a great satisfaction for me: the first thought is always directed towards the community, our fellow citizens, and the opportunity to offer them an additional service. I really think of all the families, the boys, and the children who will be able to use this facility without having to go far from home. Sport is a source of well-being, for the body and the mind. We have repeated it many times and we will continue to support this line of thought. First and foremost, as a doctor, I will never stop supporting how important it is to encourage sports practice to promote healthy development and growth, as well as creating moments of aggregation and socialization. I really thank the municipal technicians, professionals, and colleagues who have dedicated themselves so that we could reach this moment and develop the most optimal solution for the entire community,” also emphasized Mayor Roberto Tardani.
