The Intergroup dedicated to rare and neurodegenerative diseases was recently presented at the Regional Council of Lombardy, at Palazzo Pirelli. The initiative involves twenty-six regional councilors from all political groups and has the primary goal of strengthening dialogue between institutions, associations, and experts, as well as developing more effective health and social health policies to meet the needs of citizens affected by these conditions. The press conference was attended by prominent figures from the scientific and associative world, such as Dr. Erica Daina from the Mario Negri Institute and Marco Sessa from UNIAMO, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
Claudia Carzeri, a member of the Health Commission of the Regional Council, emphasized that Lombardy is a leader in the field of rare diseases, with as many as 61 specialized centers present in the region. With the establishment of this intergroup, the aim is to advocate for patients’ needs through the procurement of funding and the development of shared projects. The expressed intention of the intergroup members is to promote ongoing research in neuroscience and improve access to care for those who face these health challenges on a daily basis.
