During a dive in the waters off Gardone Riviera, some divers reported to the Salò Coast Guard Operations Center the presence of a fishing net that created a dangerous barrier. The net, about 40 meters long and located at a depth of 15 meters, posed a threat to diving enthusiasts.
The Coast Guard immediately notified boaters via the WhatsApp channel, informing them of the danger posed by the net for diving in that area of the lake. At the same time, a joint operation was planned between the Fire Department and the Coast Guard to locate and remove the net from the seabed.
The operation was successfully carried out thanks to the collaboration between two teams of divers from the Milan Fire Department and two Coast Guard naval vessels. After about three hours of work, the firefighters’ divers managed to locate and recover the net on one of the naval vessels used.
The net was seized administratively by the Coast Guard, as it violated the Regional Regulations. However, due to the poor maintenance conditions of the fishing gear, it will be difficult to identify the users of the net. The gear has been placed in a container awaiting authorization for its destruction.
