Starting from July 22, 2024, the Interregional Agency for the Po (AIPo) and the Garda Community have initiated a significant reduction in water discharges from Lake Garda to the Mantuan countryside, decreasing the flow from 170 to 130 cubic meters per second. This decision was made in anticipation of possible drought periods in the coming months, with the aim of safeguarding the hydraulic safety of the lakeside municipalities and preventing environmental crises.
The Secretary General of the Garda Community, Pierlucio Ceresa, emphasized the importance of rationalizing water use in an uncertain climatic context. Currently, about 93 cubic meters per second are allocated to the Mincio River, while additional flows are directed to other channels. Ceresa warned that further reductions may be necessary if weather conditions do not improve in the coming months.
